Softwood Sleepers
We supply 100mm x 200mm x 2.4m softwood sleepers ideal for retaining walls, raised beds, garden steps, planters, sand pits, edging and terracing a sloped garden. These sleepers are commonly used in landscaping across the UK and are a cost effective timber to use, especially as they are usually in contact with the ground constantly.
Why softwood over reclaimed railway sleepers?
There are a few reasons why you would use softwood sleepers over reclaimed railway sleepers including:
Weight. Our softwood sleepers are a lot lighter than their reclaimed counterparts, making them easier to handle and fix into position
Clean: The sleeper will arrive clean and fresh looking without the weathering that the reclaimed sleepers have already endured.
No oil or residue: Sometimes railway sleepers come coated in oil and other residue, so new treated sleepers are a lot safer to use as well.
Softwood Posts
We supply both 3x3 (75mm x 75mm) and 4x4 posts (100mm x 100mm) in 2.4m lengths. These posts are great for fence posts, decking supports and trellising. When using the posts, if you are digging them into ground, then usually a quarter of post needs to be underground, so approximately 600mm for ours. It’s important to concrete them in with something like postcrete where possible. It’s important that any cut ends get treated as well to preserve the timber for as long as possible.
Another important aspect of using these posts is to ensure there is sufficient drainage away from the timber. The posts will rot quickly if they are stuck in pools of water, so you need to get the standing water away from them.

Are these the same as railway sleepers?
No, new treated softwood, uniform, clean and lighter, with no creosote.
Can I use treated sleepers for a vegetable raised bed?
Yes you can, you’ll need to fix them in place using rebars to prevent them from moving and if you are stacking them, you may need to bolt them together to increase stability.
How deep should a fence post go?
A quarter of its length, for example ours are designed to go 600mm into the ground.
Do I need to treat them?
Only cut ends.
