Cladding
We offer a variety of cost effective claddings including Shiplap and Loplap profiles. These timbers are all green pressure treated and are ready to be installed straight away, saving you time.
One of the main advantages of softwood cladding, apart from the price, is that it can be painted after installation. It's typically best to wait approximately 3-6 months for the timber to dry first (longer in winter).
This cladding is great for sheds and outbuildings.

Choosing a Profile
Deciding on the right cladding profile for you is important because that will ultimately decide what kind of look you want your cladding to have.
Loglap cladding is becoming increasingly popular, it has a curved face making it look like the building is lined with logs. Shiplap on the other hand is flat faced with a slight curve running from the tongue to the thicker part of the board.
Each pattern has a tongue and groove mechanism for fitting, which makes them easy to install and weatherproof. They are also both face fixed, and we recommend using stainless steel nails/screws to avoid the fixings rusting and causing blue stain on the wood. It’s also important to fit the boards with the tongue pointing up, this prevents moisture from being trapped in the groove.
Finishing and Treatment
As the timber is treated, you can just leave it as it is, there’s no need for further treatment. However, a lot of people do like to paint the timber at which point, any paint suitable for wood will work. If you need further assistance, we recommend Wood Finishes Direct for anything treatment related.
If you would prefer to leave the timber untreated it will eventually fade to a silver-grey colour, although this may take longer than untreated products.
Typical Uses
Typical uses of softwood cladding include sheds, workshops, garden offices and summerhouses. The advantage of being lightweight makes them easy to fit and ideal for DIY projects. They can be used elsewhere though and are commonly used for bike stores, bin stores and car ports.
You can also use Shiplap or Loglap cladding internally to create a cabin style finish.

This is down to your own personal preference, they each perform the same, so the real choice comes down to which you prefer the look of.
Can Cladding Be Fit Vertically?
No, the boards are designed to be installed horizontally. Fitting them vertically could cause issues with water getting in behind.
How do I calculate how much cladding I need?
So to get how many boards you need you need the area (m2) of the building you are looking to cover (width x height) and then you divide that by the face width of the cladding you are choosing in meters (not mm). So the Calc looks like this:
m2 = Width * Height
Running M = m2 / Face Cover
Number Required = Running M / Length of the board.
We also recommend adding 10% for wastage.
